4. **Performance**: SDK 12+ provides significant performance improvements
5. **Security**: Latest security patches and compliance requirements

## Development Commands

### Building the Titanium Module
```bash
# ✅ CORRECT - Official Titanium Module Build Commands
# iOS (from ios/ directory)
ti build -p ios --build-only
# Android (from android/ directory)
ti build -p android --build-only
# ❌ WRONG - These are for apps, not modules
# titanium build -p android -T module
# titanium build -p ios -T module
# ❌ WRONG - Direct Xcode build (doesn't generate .zip)
# xcodebuild -project paint.xcodeproj -scheme paint -configuration Release
```

## Development Best Practices ⚠️
**IMPORTANT**: This is a **TITANIUM SDK MODULE**, not a regular iOS/Android app!

### Titanium Module Development - ESSENTIAL RULES
1. **Use `ti build -p [platform] --build-only`** - Official Titanium module build command
2. **Cross-platform API consistency** - iOS and Android must have identical JavaScript APIs
3. **Module manifest versions** - Update version numbers in manifest files
4. **Distribution via .zip files** - Generated in respective `dist/` directories
5. **Native code exposes JavaScript APIs** - @Kroll.method (Android), proxy patterns (iOS)

### iOS Native Development (Objective-C) - CRITICAL RULES
1. **COMPILE AFTER EVERY SMALL CHANGE** - Nunca agregues múltiples métodos sin compilar
2. **SELECTOR SIGNATURES MUST MATCH EXACTLY** - `@selector(undo:)` vs `@selector(undo)` matters!
3. **Check method signatures MATCH** - Proxy methods must match view implementation exactly
4. **Import headers FIRST** - Include all necessary .h files in proxy before coding
5. **Use proper casting** - Cast view to correct type: `(TiPaintPaintView*)[self view]`
6. **Thread safety required** - Use `TiThreadPerformOnMainThread` for return values
7. **Method naming convention** - Proxy methods take `(id)args`, view methods may not need args
8. **INCREMENTAL DEVELOPMENT** - Add one method → compile → test → repeat
9. **SELECTOR DEBUGGING** - Wrong selector = "unrecognized selector" runtime crash

### Android Native Development (Java) - ESSENTIAL PRACTICES
1. **Import statements FIRST** - Always add missing imports (Handler, etc.) before coding
2. **@Kroll.method annotations** - Required for JS exposure, add immediately
3. **Thread safety mandatory** - Use `TiUIHelper.runUithread()` for UI operations
4. **Null safety checks** - Always check for null views and contexts
5. **Modern APIs only** - Use `TiConvert.toColor()` with context parameter

### Compilation Strategy - PREVENT ERRORS
1. **Incremental approach** - Add one method, compile, test, repeat - NO EXCEPTIONS
2. **Verify imports/headers** - Check all necessary imports before writing any code
3. **Match method signatures** - Ensure proxy and implementation signatures align perfectly
4. **Immediate error fixing** - Never accumulate compilation errors
5. **Test small changes** - Build after every significant modification

### Testing the Titanium Module
```bash
# Install module in test app (after building)
ti module install android/dist/ti.paint-android-6.0.0.zip
ti module install ios/dist/ti.paint-iphone-3.0.0.zip
# Run test app with module
ti build -p android -d example/
ti build -p ios -d example/
```

## Key Features
- Multi-touch painting with configurable brush properties
- Stroke width, color, and alpha control
- Erase mode functionality
- Image loading and manipulation
- Save/load paint sessions
- Undo/redo functionality
- Cross-platform compatibility

## Dependencies
- Titanium SDK 12.0.0+
- Android SDK with API 21-34 support
- Xcode with iOS 12.0-17.x support
- Java 11+ (for building Android module)

## Compilation Notes
- **Java Version**: If using Java 21, you may encounter Gradle compatibility issues. Use Java 11-17 for building.
- **Xcode**: Use latest Xcode version for iOS development and App Store compliance
- **Android SDK**: Ensure you have API 34 (Android 14) installed for target compatibility

## API Usage Examples

### Basic Drawing Operations
```javascript
// Create paint view
var paintView = TiPaint.createPaintView({
strokeWidth: 5,
strokeColor: 'blue',
strokeAlpha: 255,
eraseMode: false
});
// Set image background
paintView.setImage('path/to/image.png');
// Save painted image
var blob = paintView.toBlob();
// Clear canvas
paintView.clear();
```

### Enhanced Undo/Redo (iOS + Android)
```javascript
// Efficient undo/redo - now instantaneous
paintView.undo(); // Instant response, no memory overhead
paintView.redo(); // Instant response
```

**Technical Implementation:**
- ✅ **Stroke-based system** - stores arrays of stroke objects (points, colors, properties)
- ✅ **NO image snapshots** - eliminates memory-intensive image copying
- ✅ **Instant operations** - moves strokes between arrays (`completedStrokes` ↔ `undoStrokes`)
- ✅ **Cross-platform compatibility** - identical behavior on iOS and Android
- ✅ **Persistent data** - enables save/load and playback functionality

### NEW: Playback "Movie Mode" + Stroke Persistence (Cross-Platform)
```javascript
// Replay all drawing strokes over 5 seconds
paintView.playbackDrawing(5.0);
// Playback controls
paintView.pausePlayback();
paintView.resumePlayback();
paintView.stopPlayback();
// Speed control (0.5x = half speed, 2.0x = double speed)
paintView.setPlaybackSpeed(2.0);
// Progress tracking (returns 0.0 to 1.0)
var progress = paintView.getPlaybackProgress();
console.log('Playback is ' + (progress * 100) + '% complete');
// NEW: Save and load stroke data (Cross-Platform Compatible)
var strokesData = paintView.getStrokesData();
var file = Ti.Filesystem.getFile(Ti.Filesystem.applicationDataDirectory, 'drawing.json');
file.write(JSON.stringify(strokesData));
// Later: Load and replay saved drawing
var savedData = JSON.parse(file.read().text);
paintView.loadStrokes(savedData);
paintView.playbackDrawing(8.0); // Replay saved session
// Example: Educational app with persistent lessons
paintView.loadStrokes(lessonData);
paintView.playbackDrawing(10.0); // 10 second tutorial
setTimeout(function() {
paintView.setPlaybackSpeed(0.5); // Slow down for detail
}, 3000);
```

### Stroke Data Format (JSON)
```javascript
// Consistent across iOS and Android platforms
[
{
"strokeColor": "#ff0000", // Hex color string
"strokeWidth": 10.0, // Float value
"strokeAlpha": 255, // Integer 0-255
"eraseMode": false, // Boolean
"points": [ // Array of coordinate objects
{"x": 100.5, "y": 200.3},
{"x": 101.2, "y": 201.8}
]
}
]
```

## Distribution
- Module builds generate `.zip` files in respective `dist/` directories
- Install modules using `titanium module install <path-to-zip>`
- For App Store/Play Store distribution, ensure compliance with latest platform requirements

## Troubleshooting
1. **Build Errors**: Check Java version compatibility (use JDK 11-17)
2. **SDK Compatibility**: Verify Titanium SDK 12.0.0+ is installed
3. **Platform Issues**: Ensure latest Xcode and Android SDK tools are installed
4. **Thread Safety**: All UI operations are now properly handled on main thread
5. **Erase Mode iOS**: Fixed issue where erase strokes showed black instead of strokeColor
6. **Save/Load Issues**:
- **RESOLVED**: JavaScript serialization format differences (Object[] vs Map handling)
- **RESOLVED**: Integer/Double casting issues across platforms
- **RESOLVED**: Threading issues with loadStrokes() method
- Ensure file system permissions and valid JSON data
7. **Type Safety**: All JavaScript number type conversions now handled robustly
8. **Production Deployment**: Debug logs removed for clean production builds

## Future Considerations
- Monitor Titanium SDK updates for new features and compatibility
- Consider adding support for additional image formats
- Evaluate performance improvements for large canvas sizes
- Keep up with Apple/Google platform requirement changes
