Over in the Baker thread, I posted a list of the Baker St John books from Chuck's catalog.
29dukedog and tricolorbrian pointed out that Church copies of two books -- Teen-Age Romances 2 and 3 -- have been sold even though they aren't on the list. The TAR 3 was slabbed by CGC and given the Church designation.
This discovery raises a few points:
- These seem unlikely books for Chuck to have sold prior to preparing the catalog. Particularly since the TAR 1 is listed with a grade of NM+ and a modest asking price of .00. It seems odd that someone would have bought the 2 and 3 (the 3 is only mid-grade) from Chuck while leaving the 1.
- It's possible that the catalog was incomplete, particularly with respect to books like these that were not widely collected at the time. (Perhaps this observation is already known.)
- Most intriguing question: On what basis did CGC certify the TAR 3 as a Church copy? Do they have access to a more comprehensive list than Chuck's sales catalog. If so, I wonder if they would share it with you.
There are approximately 135 doubles listed on the Mile High list. Many doubles were not listed if Chuck gave them the same grade. If one of the doubles sold, he simply left the book on the next list since he still had one copy to sell.
