Key remapping

I know it's an obvious request that you already expected, but just to understand if expectations are right.
Do you plan to add the ability to remap the keys with either a config file or switches?
In particular, I need a way to make Tab/S-Tab simply go next/previous and assign another key to select.

I'm potentially open to this. It would add some complexity. What syntax would you expect for bindings? I'm imagining something like (with ctrl+a as just an example for selecting)

zf --bind tab=down --bind shift+tab=up --bind ctrl+a=select

So I'm thinking modifier+key=action

Part of me wants to rewrite the UI layer in Lua so the keybindings and interface can be fully customized. Not sure if that's worth it and maybe going too far.

I think the canonical way is to just read a config file in a location like ~/.config/zf/zf.{ini,toml,yaml}
But, if it's simpler with switches, maybe something like this will be easier to parse?

zf --bind(-b) "tab=down&shfit+tab=up&ctrl+a=select"

I'll think about this for a bit. Doing it all in one string works but that is much less readable to me. I'll also consider a file. I do want to reduce complexity as much as possible so I'm leaning toward doing only switches

I realized that I can workaround this by remapping some keys in the terminal to output arrow up/down escape sequences.
But, such a functionality would still be useful, I think.
However, I think that reading a config would be a better approach in the long run.
Thanks, anyway, the finding algorithm is indeed much more logical and precise.
