This does not seem very elegant, but works for syntax such as:
shmem.iget(data, data, nbr_r, ((1, -1), local_ncols+2), ((1, 1), local_ncols+2), local_nrows)
as an alternative to:
shmem.iget(data[1, -1:], data[1, 1:2], nbr_r, local_ncols+2, local_ncols+2, local_nrows)
