Can't view .C files

[PypeBros]

github seems to believe that .C files (e.g. MONEDIT.C, BLOCEDIT.C) are binary files, and it refuses to let us view them online.

Indeed, the files are corrupted.

[Poikilos]

They aren't corrupted, they are just old. It is an encoding issue. File(s) contain the control character 0x1A (EOF a.k.a. ^Z), the explicit end of file character. You can see it by opening MONEDIT.C in a hex editor. I assume 0x1A can be stripped from all C files and any compiler anyone intends to run on a modern computer would work better. I doubt backward compatibility for ancient compilers will be useful for anyone. :edit: See my later comment.

I see the EOF at b620 but what about line b5a0?

I'm encoding some data to draw a simple image (using the "draw4dat" function) directly into a C byte array. Since there was no way to initialize a constant byte array back then, I'm using a string in the source code -- but its not a "real" (zero terminated string). Its binary data of a format that never uses the byte value who's ascii code corresponds to the double quote, so its representable as a string.

Modern editors and compilers might be very unhappy with embedding binary data into a file and a string like this, but back then it worked great!

Here, please use my program. I generated this and it works well:

https://github.com/Hierosoft/BinaryStringTool

In Windows, the paste feature will be useless, because it cannot preserve binary (according to HxD warning that appears)

• The program accepts a text file as an argument as a workaround for this. :edit: I also added "File" "Open" (or Ctrl+O, or Cmd+O for macOS). :edit: I updated the screenshot. The string now has string continuations and real newlines after escaped newlines to make the file more readable (preserves binary; affects code formatting only).
