Matt was a pivotal member of the Perl community who passed away recently. This obituary acknowledges his extensive contributions, roles and projects that shaped modern Perl.
Add myself to the Authors file using Porting/updateAUTHORS.pl as this is my first PR.

Should we look to include the date of Matt's passing? Past obituaries vary wildly in style: the ones in 5.42.0 and 5.36.0 had dates, others didn't. |
Without getting into details, I thought about it but avoided it because we didn't have a specific date. |
Thanks for this. Thank you to @perigrin for the original commit. One correction ShadowCat is Shadowcat or Shadowcat Systems, there is no capitalisation of "Cat". N.B. At this time there is no date for Matt's death certificate. The interim certificate has a date of the 4th July 2025 (which is when we found him and just like him to have a date that our US friends will take either badly or well (he was Marmite after all). The coroner's report will not be available for a number of weeks at which point they will affix an official date. |
