We previously explored changing our soil density/specific heat properties in our foundation model but were concerned about the size of the impact we were seeing on simulation results. Currently we continue to use the E+ IDD defaults (which are, confusing, very different than the Kiva defaults) for our foundation heat transfer.
But as I suggest in the E+ issue, I believe the E+ IDD defaults produce a highly unrepresentative value for thermal diffusivity (~0.09 ft2/hr) and we should be using a value more in the 0.02-0.04 ft2/hr range, in which case the impact on simulations may be warranted.
