Some ideas for logos for the project were discussed on discord chat. The basic ideas were:
- A simple logo that will scale down to icon size well
- The idea of a hex to represent a hex from a hex map and/or a d20
- The yellow color Matt used for the title text of the placeholder site
- Something to convey the idea of "lookup"
Initial ideas included a yellow hex either wrapped with a ribbon with 'adventure lookup' on it or embossed. A few variations of this idea were tried. In the end, including text on the logo made it not scale down well. It also required the font used on the logo to match the site and vice versa.
So a logo without text was created. In place of the text a standard magnifier icon is used to represent the "lookup" aspect of Adventure lookup. In this logo the outer hex represents a d20 (in turn representing the world of all D&D adventures) while the inner hex represents a map hex of the adventure being found by the magnifier.
