Monochrome opacity

Is there any way to have window opacity but make the background coming through be in greyscale? A large bias of colour in a background can really influence the overall feel of a window, I'd like to be able to see it, but not have my screen affected by a strong colour making the black terminal window drift towards some form of brown.

It seems it's not possible currently, and I'd consider working out how to code a patch for it if it'd definitely be possible...
