Stocks not updating

My system is not updating the values of stocks anymore... All I get is 0.00 for everything.

There is an update to the Android version on the Giggle Play Store that fixes that.

No updates yet for the Java (desktop) version, which is the one I care about...

Same here. Using the desktop version on Linux - and the Stock Watchlist has been frozen to zeroes for the past several trading days. Nothing in the logs/console.

In the past it used to take several days for a fixed version to appear on the JStock main page.

I keep coming back here hoping for a fix, but no luck. It's been almost a week now. I hope that's not a bad sign for the future of JStock :(

I was wondering that as well, but there are no new commits to this repo...

However, the new APK update for Android from Giggle does update prices.

A little detective work shows it now contacts fc.yahoo.com (presumably for price quotes...)

About a week ago I have sent 2 emails to Yan Cheng Cheok and have not yet received a response.
Tried to switch server via the options but that did nothing.
Still looking at a watch list full of zeros.
It would be sad if such a good application like this will be lost.

@feitnomore To run it, you need to add to the build the jstock.jar from the ZIP on the Download Jstock page. It contains close-sourced parts of the code. I'm too running JStock from the source code, with my changes of Buy/Sell prices added to the Intraday graphs. But right now you won't see any numbers even if you succeed in building, it's all zeroes there.

@ThePPK I'm afraid she won't help you much. AFAIR the connection part resides in the closed-source section. Moreover, if it is a change in the API you cannot just guess what the exact change is, so simply substituting the URL won't give you much. But of course I'd be more than happy if she'd be able to fix it.

UPD: As a temporary fix, one can update stock prices manually by editing this file (NB! close JStock app before editing):
~/.jstock/1.0.7/<YOUR_STOCK_COUNTRY>/portfolios/My Portfolio/portfolio-real-time-info.json

• In the stockPrices section set the current prices of all your stocks.
• In the stockPricesTimestamp section set the value you currently see in https://www.unixtimestamp.com/ and append 3 zeroes to the end of this number. Example: 1744018343 => 1744018343000.

Save the file and open JStock. It will at least show you the current valuation of your Portfolio.

I also considered fixing it this way. And run .bat file that first downloads data to the file, then run Jstock. Not ideal, but should work. Now we need this script. I'm on vacation, may be in two weeks from now I will do that with data downloaded from FinancialModellingPrep (they have free license for 300 requests per hour). I use their API in my Google spreadsheets

I had to install yfinance in a virtual environment and launch it after a source command due to receiving "error: externally-managed-environment"

But now yfinance returns (not really XXXX stock):

[Error] Not able to get data for XXXX: HTTPSConnectionPool(host='fc.yahoo.com', port=443): Max retries exceeded with url: / (Caused by NewConnectionError('<urllib3.connection.HTTPSConnection object at 0x72178573f140>: Failed to establish a new connection: [Errno 111] Connection refused'))

Is this what is causing jstock to not update?
