Spring Boot 4 compatibility – roadmap or plans?

Hello Elide maintainers,

First of all, thank you for the great work on Elide — it has been a core part of our API stack.

With the release of Spring Boot 4, I would like to ask whether there is already:

a roadmap,

an ongoing effort (branch/PR),

or an estimated timeline

for making Elide compatible with Spring Boot 4.

At the moment, Elide works well with Spring Boot 3.x, but Spring Boot 4 introduces changes (Spring Framework 7, dependency upgrades, etc.) that may impact the current elide-spring-boot-starter.

If there is no official work planned yet, could you please let us know:

whether Spring Boot 4 support is expected,

and if community contributions would be welcome in this area?

I would be happy to help test or contribute if guidance is available.

Investigating Hibernate 7 first.

I do have a branch with some of the relevant changes

However there are the following notes

• As Hibernate 7.1 is already in limited support so Hibernate 7.2 needs to be used.
• The only version of Quarkus compatible with Hibernate 7.2 is currently a pre-release https://github.com/quarkusio/quarkus/releases/tag/3.31.0.CR1.
• This likely also needs to rebase on top of the PR for the Quarkus changes to RestEasy Reactive when it gets merged
• There's currently no transactions-essentials version that is compatible with Spring Boot 4, so I disabled the JTA transaction tests. If it needs to be retained might need to see if can migrate to narayana
• The code is still using Jackson 2, there's some dependencies like swagger and calcite that still use Jackson 2 so not sure if it should be upgraded to Jackson 3 but it probably should
• Elide likely needs a major version bump given all the major version library upgrades of some dependencies

Major release for sure. We should do as many large dependency updates together as possible.

Seems like transactions-essentials has now a version compatible with Spring Boot 4

I have updated the branch to upgrade to Jackson 3 and some other changes

The dependencies that aren't using Jackson 3 are Calcite and Swagger so use of these will still result in Jackson 2 being pulled in.
