Weird (to me) error message

I have just downloaded the most recent wxmaxima appimage with the intention of replacing the 20.12.2 version currently installed on my Linux Mint 19.3 laptop. However, when attempting to run this new version I get the error message "Invalid url: '/home/roy/.wxmaxima_latest/wxmaxima-x86_64.AppImage' given, exiting
No ':' in the uri "
At this point, I'm lost. Any help would be very much appreciated

Have you set the executable flag of the program? To me that message looks like your system looks inside the file - believes that it looks like HTML and tries to tell a web browser to execute wxMaxima
