Merchant logo are not fetching

Hi, how can I add merchants logo to have a nice transaction page ? I already added the brand fetch API key, but it doesn't fetch the logo.

To show merchant logos on the transaction page using Brandfetch, make sure your Brandfetch Client ID is set either in the Self-Hosting settings or as the BRAND_FETCH_CLIENT_ID environment variable. If logos aren’t showing up even after adding your API key, check these common issues:

• The merchant must have a business URL detected by OpenAI; if not, no logo is fetched.
• The Brandfetch Client ID must be valid and correctly set in settings or as an environment variable.
• Brandfetch may not have a logo for some domains.
• If the environment variable is set, the UI disables manual entry and shows a confirmation message (settings UI).

If you want to debug further, confirm that detected merchants have a logo_url assigned (visible in the merchant details), and that your Brandfetch Client ID is visible in the settings page. If all is set up and some merchants still lack logos, it’s likely due to missing or unrecognized business domains or Brandfetch not having a logo for that merchant. In those cases, the fallback icon is expected behavior (code reference).

@dosu There is no possibility to fetch logo without an AI assistant ? And to add manually the logo ?

Currently, merchant logos are fetched using OpenAI to detect the business domain and Brandfetch to provide the logo. There isn't a way to fetch merchant logos without the AI assistant, and manual logo upload or assignment for merchants is not supported—only accounts support manual logo attachment. The merchant logo is shown if a logo_url is set, but there’s no UI or backend logic for users to set this manually; it’s handled automatically via OpenAI and Brandfetch integration details.

To configure OpenAI, you can either set the OPENAI_ACCESS_TOKEN environment variable or enter your token in the Self-Hosting settings page. You can also configure the model and API endpoint using OPENAI_MODEL and OPENAI_URI_BASE environment variables or in the settings UI. If the environment variable is set, the input field in the UI will be disabled setup reference.

If you disable the AI assistant, merchant logo detection and fetching will not work, and the app will show fallback icons instead see here.

@dosu Thanks for the info. I tried to add the API key from https://platform.openai.com/api-keys in a project with 5$ credit. But the AI chat in Sure and the merchant logo assigning does not work.
I might have done something wrong ? My API key begins with "sk-" and this should be the access token, right ?

What version of Sure are you running, @mamarguerat? We have some cool additions by @sokie that will show you for sure if you are getting LLM tokens flowing (and how much they cost) in the latest alpha builds.

Hi @jjmata, I am running Version: v0.6.5-alpha.3 and have access to this dashboard. Currently, everything is at 0, and I still have the error in the chat "Failed to generate response. Please try again". I double-checked my api key in the environment variables and tried to add the endpoint and model manually with the default values.
Where can I find more logs to be able to debug this ?

I tried to remove the API key from the environment variables and to put the same key on the settings ui and it worked for the AI part. Now the logo seems to be fetched but not displayed

I tried a bit more, and I still have issues. I now have a lot of merchants with an empty logo, except one of them who has the correct logo. I assume this means that my client ID for brand fetch is correct ?
The merchant with the correct logo cannot be assigned to new transactions.

I found that the empty logo is assigned to synthfinance (i. e. https://logo.synthfinance.com/adobe.com) in the frontend HTML

I updated my docker image since I said (I have automatic update based on we-promise/sure:latest every day). Now I'm on v0.6.5-alpha.6 (8860450).

The fact that you are seeing *synthfinance.com* URLs told me that ... basically my hunch was that those logos where populated into the merchants table by a previous install, we need to have a way to clear them. Probably write a rake task since I'm not sure it will work to just clear those values.

To confirm just run SELECT name, logo_url FROM public.merchants in your SQL schema.

Yes, I do have synthfinance in the DB from the previous install. Here is the result of the sql command

@jjmata My question is now resolved, but here are my findings:

• The synthfinance.com url is still present after a previous installs of maybe (I was an early adopter of maybe)
• The merchants added by AI and rule in sure did not have a family ID nd the type was not FamilyMerchant
  • This is a cause of the merchant not being present in the merchant settings page and not selectable when editing transactions manually

I replaced the wrong logo url manually in the database and now everything is working.

For full resolution:

1. I used the AI API settings on the UI instead of the .env file
2. Checked my Brandfetch API client ID
3. Replaced all synthfinance links with brandfetch links manually (could work by putting all to NULL and use the rule to auto-add the urls).
