Refactor connect edges (#113)

* initial commit

* refactor connect edges

* make the tests pass

* fix up handling of holes

* make linting happy

* remove some unnessecary bits

* fix valid poly condition

* implemented same logic as in Rust

* updated test cases

* incorporate review comments + cleanup

* updated dist
