Show count of fields in each Matrix fields to identify unused Matrix fields.

What are you trying to do?

I have inherited a project and there are many fields defined but I cant easily find where they have all been used.

Seeing "unused" next to fields is a great start but it's not showing next to Matrix fields that have not been configured. This project has many of those - possibly created with some plan in mind but abandoned and never cleaned up.

What's your proposed solution?

Can you show the count of fields within each Matrix field?

Then we can easily find empty un-configured Matrix fields.

I imagine you're talking about this for Craft 5, as fields within a Matrix field in Craft 4 were scoped to that Matrix field - hence they are always used wherever the Matrix field was used.

If you're in Craft 5, you might have better luck looking at Settings > Fields and checking out the "Used By" column for the nested field (which are now no longer Matrix-specific in scope)

We will be migrating to Craft 5 eventually and I was going to tidy up the fields before then.

What I am asking for is this, and I would not have thought Craft 4 or 5 would impact this, but I have nto used Craft 5 yet to find out.

If someone has created a Matrix field called "Bob" and within that defined a Text field and a Date field, thats 2 sub-fields.
if they also create a Matrix field called Alice and not added any sub-fields thats 0 sub-fields.

I would love to see in the field list
Matrix field Bob (2)
Matrix field Alice (0)

Then I can see at a glance which have no sub-fields and delete them.

Oh right, I see what you mean - you want a count on the number of fields used within Matrix fields, so you can see at a glance what makes up a Matrix field without having to go in it. Fair enough!
