I downloaded the data and working on topo(GTOPO30.tif), and the file doesn't work. It seems it is not uploaded completely. Could you please check on that? Thanks!

Because the GTOPO30.tif is too big for github

Please clarify: there are 34 GTOPO30 tiles available from https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ (the link to access data at https://lta.cr.usgs.gov/GTOPO30) - do we merge these 34 tiles into one .tif or is there a link directly to a 'full' file that I'm missing? Thanks.

I'm not 100% sure this is the best fix, but I changed the file from gtopo.tif to the elev1.grd and seems to work now. . . . . . .

I am encountering the same issue and find it very frustrated to be stuck at the first stage of uploading data, following a book that praises itself coming with a regularly updated companion website and providing fully developed examples in R. Therefore I would really appreciate if the HSDM-book team would put a little more efforts in answering these simple issues. If I wanted to waste my time figuring things on my own, I wouldn't have buy the book at the first place. Thank you for your comprehension.

Hi there, yeah it works but this is not the same resolution. I guess the elev1.grd is 1.5° resolution.

Dear all,
First of all, sorry for the lack of answers. Unfortunately, GitHub does not allow to store large file anymore and we cannot provide the GTOPO30.tif as it was at the beginning. Yes, looks like on the EarthExplorer server, the file is divided into multiple tiles. I am looking at it right now and try to solve that issue soon (perhaps by zipping the big file and adding it to GitHub, or by simply giving a small code to download and build the GTOPO30 from scratch.

All the tiles could be easily downloaded from here: https://ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/topo/gltiles.html
However, it is huge.

What I would suggest is to simply skip that part, which roughly explained a resampling procedure at a lower resolution, and go directly page 73.
The first given command (elev1 <- resample...) resamples the GTOPO30 data at a lower resolution.
Replace that line by :

elev1 = raster('raster/topo/elev1.grd')
This file is given the raster/topo folder.

and then go on
