iOS Widgets for Happy - Would you use this feature?

Hi Happy community! 👋

Before diving into implementation, I'd like to gauge interest in adding iOS widgets to the Happy mobile app. This would allow you to see Claude Code session status, machine status, and metrics right from your iPhone home screen or lock screen.

Proposed Widget Types

1. Home Screen Widgets (WidgetKit)

Traditional widgets in small/medium/large sizes showing:

• Small: Active session count + thinking status indicator
• Medium: Current session details, machine status, token usage bar
• Large: Dashboard with multiple sessions, machine list, token metrics

Update frequency: Every 5-15 minutes (iOS background refresh limits)

2. Live Activities (Lock Screen + Dynamic Island)

Real-time updates on your lock screen showing:

• Active session progress with live "thinking" indicator
• Current task/summary from Claude
• Push-driven updates (more real-time than home screen widgets)

3. Statusline Metrics Widget

Focused on developer metrics:

• Token usage (input/output)
• Context window percentage
• Rate limit countdown
• Cache hit stats

Questions for You

1. Would you actually use iOS widgets for Happy?

   • How often would you check them?
   • What's your primary use case?

2. Which widget type is most valuable to you?

   • Home screen widgets (static/semi-static)
   • Live Activities (lock screen, real-time)
   • Metrics-focused widget
   • All of the above?

3. What information is most important to see at a glance?

   • Session status (active/idle/thinking)
   • Which machine is running
   • Token usage / context window
   • Session summary text
   • Last activity timestamp
   • Something else?

4. What would make you NOT use widgets?

   • Battery drain concerns?
   • Privacy (showing code summaries on lock screen)?
   • Already have other ways to check status?

Implementation Effort

• Home Screen Widgets: ~3-4 days (basic implementation)
• Live Activities: ~5-7 days (requires ActivityKit integration)
• Metrics Widget: ~2-3 days (if building on home screen widgets)

Why This Discussion?

I want to make sure we're building features the community actually wants! The related issues (#338, #64) have low engagement, so I'd love to hear from you:

Both issues have been open for a while with minimal engagement, which is why I wanted to start this broader discussion to understand what the community actually wants before implementing. 🙂
