Nicknames reverting / disappearing

Bug description

Nicknames and notes that I give my contacts disappear within a few hours. This problem started about two weeks ago. Nicknames and notes that I entered before then have been retained, but more recent ones don't seem to get saved. I tried clearing the app cache and various other simple things, no avail.

For context I do have MANY contacts to whom I've given nicknames and added notes (I'd estimate at least 300, possibly nearing 1,000).
