It Says Connection Refused. (is the daemon running?) when alarm is set

Have you started the daemon? It needs to be running in the background to trigger alarms. Add the command alarm-cli daemon to run on system startup. For example in i3wm I have exec --no-startup-id alarm-cli daemon in my i3 config.
