Deal with program output

This extension allows to type bash commands, but what about their output?

Please give examples how to write command output (at least with prepared text, not automatically) with your extension, or mention in the documentation that it is not possible.

Is the issue that you're having here that the command output is selectable? Or is it that it's styled the same as the command itself? Or is it about the syntax in the command output being highlighted despite it not being a command? Or is it all of the above? Or maybe something else I missed?

Regardless of the answer to the above, we need a way to determine if something is a command output. It would be good if you could describe how you would envision it. Below I'm going to describe how I think this could be done.

So, my idea is to, for each line:

• if the previous line has a prompt, detect if it ends with \
  • if it does, assume that this is a command continuation and treat text as the command
  • if it does not, check if the line starts with any of the prompts
    • if it does, assume that this is a command
    • if it does not, assume that this is a command output
• if it does not, check if the line starts with any of the prompts
  • if it does, assume that this is a command
  • if it does not, assume that this is a command output

We could potentially also add some sort of configuration options (per-prompt block), here are some ideas that I could think of:

• single-command - mode where there can only be a single command so everything after it MUST be treated as command output
• command-output-prompt - way to specify prompt signifying that something is a command output
  • one problem with this is that I think a very reasonable prefix could actually be just whitespace (so basically indentation) and I'm not sure there's a good way for an option's value to have leading/trailing spaces
    • we could have another option for that perhaps? or maybe we should only allow the prefix to be indentation and all we would need to allow to set is how big the indentation is (since there might not be a way to sensibly detect it considering that command output may have whitespace too; maybe there is a way though, I haven't looked into it)

Sorry, I've just noticed your reply. Unfortunately I don't remember what I meant that time... I can try to remember if really needed :) But it seems other people have understood that in general, judging by their likes! I trust you find the best solution.
