<div class="tooltip" id="n1">Never go offline until the dispatcher does.</div>
<div class="tooltip" id="n2">The "fourth floor of Fondren Library near call number DA89"<br>is more helpful than "Fondren Library." It is also a good idea<br>to have someone waiting outside the building to help direct<br>Rice EMS to the scene.</div>
<div class="tooltip" id="n3">Indicate the severity of the problem. A hand bleeding from a<br>paper cut is a different scenario than a hand bleeding from a<br>gunshot wound. If the emergency is medical (nausea, chest pain,<br>dizziness), it may be helpful to give the age of the patient.</div>
<div class="tooltip" id="n5">If there is a threat to your safety, (fire, violent person,<br>chemical spill, etc.) leave immediately. If you can safely<br>help remove the injured person from the scene, do so, but<br>your safety comes first. It is vital that you tell dispatch<br>if there is a safety threat, otherwise EMTs may be harmed.<br>Obviously, if the EMTs are injured, they can no longer<br>help the patient.</div>
<div class="tooltip" id="n6">Rice EMTs are well-trained, and have a lot of experience<br>helping injured and sick people. They have literally saved<br>lives on numerous occasions, and are more than ready to<br>take on any situation.</div>
<div class="tooltip" id="n7">If you or someone else on the scene has first aid training,<br>try to help the patient. Never attempt to do anything that<br>you have not been trained to do, or feel uncomfortable doing.</div>
<div class="tooltip" id="n8">Generally, 1 Duty Crew EMT and 1 EMS InCharge will<br>respond; RUPD may also be dispatched, depending on<br>the nature of the emergency.</div>
<div class="tooltip" id="n9">The InCharge may request additional assistance as needed.</div>
<div class="tooltip" id="n10">For our patients' safety and well-being, Rice EMS<br>always recommends that patients seek further medical<br>attention at a hospital using ambulance transport.</div>
<div class="tooltip" id="n13">REMS always recommends ambulance transport, as that<br>is the safest option for our patients; for minor injuries,<br>(twisted ankle, minor laceration, etc.) the patient may<br>be taken to the hospital by a friend.</div>
<div class="tooltip" id="n14">More serious cases (or patient's request) will require<br>ambulance transport to the hospital. Dispatch will<br>contact HFD directly. RUPD will guide HFD units to<br>the appropriate location. REMS will continue to the<br>treat the patient and transfer patient care upon HFD's arrival.<br><br>REMS and RUPD offer their services free of charge, but<br>Rice has no control over costs incurred by HFD transport;<br>patients transported by HFD should expected to be billed<br>for that service (insurance should assist in the payment).<br>If you cannot pay the fee and your insurance does not cover<br>ambulance transport, HFD has a no-interest payment plan available.</div>
