HELP! ADULT LEARNER NEEDS HELP UPDATING TO 2.0

I have no idea how to add the compatibility add-on libraries and will have issues with the automatic switch to 2.0 in August because one of my sketch homework is NOT compatible and these sketches will be graded in September. I am a newbie to coding in general and it has been challenging but I really need to master it. I was finally doing great in 1.11.8 and am thrown off now. It seems if I had these libraries I will be alright? Any help will be so appreciated.

Hi @vonziggy, if your existing work is already working with 1.11.8, you can continue with it and you don't have to switch to 2.0. There will be no automatic and forced switch to 2.0 for any existing sketches at anytime.

ok thank you for that. Can please tell me how to add the compatibility libraries to 2.0? I am asking because I am still working on some sketches due in September and if P5 switches to 2.0, do you no longer have the ability to work in 1.11.8? I have searched everywhere and I cannot find instructions on how to add the the libraries since I believe they are core libraries?

You will still be able to use 1.11.8 indefinitely. If you want to try the compatibility addon, you can follow instructions in the README but at no point will you not be able to work with 1.11.8, no released version will be pulled and no sketches will be automatically be forced to update to 2.0.

Ok thanks I now get that I can still use 1.11.18. I would like to try 2.0. I read those instructions prior and it's not clear to me. It says to import the compatibility addons. Does that mean just download them to my computer and then check the "ON" next to them in the 2.0 settings? I am disabled and new to all this and I really do appreciate your patience.

@vonziggy No worries, are you using the web editor or otherwise what is your setup?

If I understand the question I access the web editor~ I sign in on Chrome.

In that case there is no need to download anything, near the top of the page, next to the sketch name there should be something that currently says "p5.js 1.11.8" followed by a gear icon. Click on that and it should pop up the settings panel as shown in the README:

Then under "p5.js Version" the drop down menu allows you to choose any published p5.js version to run your sketch in, 1.x or 2.x. In the same panel you can also choose whether include any compatibility addons.

@shiffman Thanks, currently I think there are no major unexpected questions that pops up so it is things like web editor in this issue, async, and typography. What I would like more people to try out and report issue on is ESM and new color spaces but you don't need to specifically fit it in for your schedule. I may lurk in the livestream if I happen to catch it at a good time!
