How to swap/change map

Samsung Galaxy S24.
I live in Australia. Installed a map for my location. Then we went to Europe, Hungary, Serbia. Installed those maps. (No, it didn't work. OSMAND didn't know, we are driving ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD. Took days to recognise why is it directing us all over the place but this is another issue)
Now we are back in Australia but it doesn't switch back the map. I downloaded the Australian map again but it still thinks the phone is in Hungary.
I can't see any way to switch the maps.
If anybody could shed some light how this should work ... thanks.

I'm not sure what you're saying here. It was directing you down the wrong side of the road but didn't know which country you were in?
If the phone thinks you're somewhere else it sounds like a GPS problem. Do other map apps know where you are?

It did know where we were. It displayed our position on the Hungarian map correctly. It just didn't know that Hungary drives on the right side. As against Australia that drives on the left side of the road. And it is reasonable to expect that a navigation software would know that it's in Europe where ALL countries drive on the right side. Except of course England.
And yes, Google map new where we were including on which side we drive.

But this is not the main question. The question was, how to tell OSMAND that we are in Australia. It still displays the Hungarian map.
Yes, OSMAND is allowed to access the GPS and it is enabled.

I turned the GPS off and on.
I turned the phone off and on.
Didn't fix it.

The GPS and OSMAND knows I am in Australia. When i try to set a course to 'Home' - the address was set in Hungary - it says 14000 km away.

update: I deleted the 'Home' and tried to search for a local address in Australia - can't find it. OSMAND still thinks the phone is in Hungary at the specific last location i used it.
And I re-downloaded the relevant Australian map. No luck.

The GPS location is not recognised by the software. IE: it's a fault.

So, is there a way to force OSMAND to recognise the GPS location?

Okay, so driving region is usually automatic but can be set to Australia in the menu
Settings> profile> General settings> Driving region.
Note that it is set separately for each profile.

Regarding GPS, do you have an Australian SIM card? GPS can be slow to locate without the help of mobile data so worth leaving it for a while. Does the right location show in e.g. Google maps etc? You could try switching location source through menu
Settings> OsmAnd settings> Location source.

To start with, it fixed itself. I opened up OSMAND and it just knew where I was, map and all. Magic.
Not really. While i was waiting for an answer i was searching and found a rather intriguing site "How to fix adroid GPS issues"
It advised to turn on-off airplane mode. I did and it fixed the GPS. WHY, you cry out. I dunnow!
OSMAND is set to use the Android API to connect to the GPS and that API just did not connect. Toggling the airplane mode must have 'reset' the API.
This is an Android or Samsung failure.

"Settings> profile> General settings> Driving region."
This is a vital info, I didn't know that. That could have caused the problem in Hungary.
Setting this property is EXACTLY what the software should do automatically - getting the info from the GPS.
This is an OSMAND failure.

"GPS can be slow to locate without the help of mobile data..."
This is a myth. The GPS is an independent hardware accessed by the OS via a driver. (Android API in my case)
OSMAND doesn't need the internet, will work in remote locations IE 4W driving beyond Whoop-Whoop.
What can cause a problem is, if the distance to the last location is very big - like in my case - it takes quite a time for the GPS to lock onto the satellites. But this, however, was not the problem because the phone was on - and so was the GPS on - for over a week in Australia.

Settings> OsmAnd settings> Location source
This is to define which driver to use:

• Google-play-services or
• Android API

Since i resolved the problem, I am happy to close the thread.
I shall wait for replies before doing so.
