Ability to search strings with leading hyphens as whole terms

I am trying to add a new feature which addresses this issue. I want to work on this issue but I have no clue where to start from. Perhaps some help would be appreciated.

I think allowing users to put strings like --run in " " would be a better option than enabling something in config.py.
