That's correct, I don't really see a use case for more than 700 block types in a single level

the use case would be having more block types instead of continuously replacing existing blocks you might need, it's just not optimal.

Example use cases:

• Level Hub with multiple background blocks that resemble the icon of a level: is it better to replace the existing backgrounds until you have no room or add variations to just 1 background block so that you can have virtually "infinite" icons?
• Troll levels with different fake death blocks that are slightly different from the real blocks

Lots of SMBX 1.3 episodes implemented each of these use cases by replacing existing blocks. That's just the standard approach in SMBX.

Also, there are currently more than 60 empty block slots (640-700) which you can freely use for totally custom blocks without replacing the SMBX 1.3 default blocks.
