        <span>
            For the past seventeen years he has been a high school English teacher in the Chicago suburbs.
            Without exception, his favorite class to teach has been Creative Writing, which affords him a steady flow of reading material.

            A couple of years ago, some students challenged him to write an example of an assignment; and, as he was writing it, he remembered
            how much he enjoyed the writing process (that story, heavily edited, was published on the Ultrarunning Magazine
            website).
