Why is this PostgreSQL step so complicated? Can't it be set up later? Onboarding is too difficult, I don't know what to set up.

Hi @leolionart,

GoClaw requires PostgreSQL — it's used for storing agents, sessions, memory, and all configuration.

Option 1: Docker (recommended, easiest)

Docker Compose bundles PostgreSQL automatically — you don't need to set up anything manually:

chmod +x prepare-env.sh
./prepare-env.sh
# Edit .env → add your API key (e.g. GOCLAW_OPENROUTER_API_KEY=sk-or-...)

docker compose -f docker-compose.yml -f docker-compose.postgres.yml -f docker-compose.selfservice.yml up -d --build

That's it. PostgreSQL starts automatically and GoClaw connects to it.

Option 2: Bare-metal (local install)

If you prefer running without Docker, you need PostgreSQL installed first:

# Install PostgreSQL (Ubuntu/Debian)
sudo apt install postgresql

# Create database
sudo -u postgres createuser goclaw
sudo -u postgres createdb -O goclaw goclaw

# Set the DSN before running onboard
export GOCLAW_POSTGRES_DSN="postgres://goclaw:@localhost:5432/goclaw?sslmode=disable"
./goclaw onboard

The DSN (Data Source Name) is just the connection string telling GoClaw where your PostgreSQL database is.

TL;DR: If you're new to this, go with Docker (Option 1) — it handles everything for you.
