I had the thought, maybe it would be useful to have a connections endpoint in Motis, similar to the proprietary RIS::Connections API by Deutsche Bahn? I find this information rather useful and use it regularly (via bahn.expert)
I think we already have all the required data in Motis:
Schedule, obviously
Precomputed transfer times between platforms (I think?)
Information on which trips have scheduled transfers via transfers.txt (Is this information even used by Motis? I have no idea)
So the new endpoint would return the departures at a stop after the arrival of a specified trip
filtered by ‘useless’ transfers that e.g. go back to where you just came from
how likely it is to make the connection (i.e. how fast you have to run) based on the time difference between arrival and departure and the transfer time
Further than that, I have not yet looked into a possible implementation. The upcoming Open Transport Community Conference might be a good opportunity to discuss/tackle this.
