Description

@marvinm2

Description

Analyze which cell types and organs are annotated in Key Events and Key Event Relationships. Shows biological domain coverage and helps users find pathways relevant to specific tissues or cell types (e.g., hepatocytes, neurons, heart, liver).

Visualization Types

  • Latest snapshot: Current cell type and organ coverage
  • Historical trends: Evolution of tissue-level annotations

Value & Priority

  • Priority: Phase 2 - Medium Priority
  • Value: Medium
  • Complexity: Low

Implementation Details

Key Data Requirements

Properties available in property_labels.csv:

  • Cell Type Applicability (aopo:CellTypeContext) - applies to KE, KER
  • Organ Applicability (aopo:OrganContext) - applies to KE, KER

Extract and count:

  • KEs/KERs by cell type
  • KEs/KERs by organ
  • Coverage patterns and gaps

Visualization Format

  • Treemap: Hierarchical view showing organs and their cell types
  • Grouped bar chart: Top 20 most annotated cell types and organs
  • Coverage table: Comprehensive list with counts
  • Trends view: Line chart showing annotation growth over time

Expected Insights

  • Identify which tissues and cell types are well-studied vs. underrepresented
  • Help users find AOPs relevant to specific biological systems
  • Guide curation to fill gaps in tissue coverage
  • Support organ-specific toxicity and disease modeling
  • Enable tissue-specific pathway analysis

Performance Notes

  • Simple property aggregation queries
  • Low complexity, performant
  • May need term normalization for consistent cell type/organ names
  • Consider creating lookup tables for common tissue terms
