AirPlay devices randomly disappearing from Home screen

I have an issue where most of my AirPlay outputs disappear from the list in Home page, despite them showing in the Owntone setup screen. Most devices except my Sonos Beam 2 (which is the only device with a wired connection) come and go at random. I've even had a stream stop mid-playback on a HomePod that's almost next to a Wi-Fi access point.

Restarting Autostream fixes the issue for a while, but then – at random times – the issue will re-occur.

I've just installed the latest version (v0.2.2) but that doesn't help. I've had this version ever since I updated from v0.1 a few weeks ago, which was rock-solid in terms of connectivity.

I've also tried an Ethernet connection to the Pi (disabling Wi-Fi), but that hasn't helped either.

I'm happy to provide any information that will help diagnose and resolve the issue!

Thanks for the detailed report, and for already trying the latest version and a wired connection.

I’ve been doing some work around suppressing temporary mDNS failures, which I suspect may be related to what you’re seeing here. My current expectation is that this should resolve cases where AirPlay devices temporarily disappear from the Home page even though they are still visible in OwnTone. The other possibility is that auostream is running into, or reacting badly to, an OwnTone crash/restart, so the logs should help confirm which path we’re on.

Could you send a log bundle to support@lo-tech.co.uk please?

To capture the most useful logs:

Go to Info → Logs.
Set the log level to Spam.
Leave auostream running until the issue happens again.
From a PC, go back to the same Info → Logs page.
Use Download Log Bundle.
Email the downloaded bundle to support@lo-tech.co.uk.

Once I have those logs I should be able to see whether this is the temporary mDNS issue I’ve been working on, or whether OwnTone is crashing/restarting underneath auostream.
