New installation during merge doesn't display file changes

I installed the extension fresh (never had it installed before) during a merge on one of my repositories. The repository shows no changed files--the pending changes window is always empty, and no icons next to files in Solution Explorer show an added/updated status. The toolbar icon shows 0 pending edits. The built-in source provider works correctly. Git for Windows 2.8.2, plugin 1.6.0, Visual Studio 2015 Professional Update 2 (14.0.25123.00), Windows 10 Professional x64.

@vaindil Well.. I can't get it to break on mine yet.. Not sure why.. yet.. so any extra info on your setup could help..

I've just seen this behaviour too against a Github repository under Visual Studio 2017. Now that I've finished the merge and committed it on the command line the extension seems to be working properly again.
