How to contribute to icon design

Hello,

in the readme it is mentioned, that the icons could use some love.

I am a designer with some spare time at the moment and I could contribute to them, but I have some initial questions:

• Are you discussing design related things somewhere or do you have some kind of design guidelines?

• Do you want contribution only for the icons in https://github.com/johannesjo/super-productivity/tree/master/src/assets/icons or do you have more somewhere else? At least to me it doesn't look like all icons are in there, they are not that many.

• How does contribution work? I fork the project, edit the svgs and then?

I am somewhat familiar with git, but I have never contributed to an open source project.

I think the best place to start is to open up an issue on github and either suggest what icons you want to change and how with text or to provide the new files attached to the Issue itself. You could also create a PR changing the exact files, but in any case, I think it is good to discuss this first.

I was just in general wondering how you organize design topics. I can open an issue with some suggestions to open a space for discussion.

Since icons are mentioned in the readme: Do you have some icons in specific which you would like to redesign or was it ment more general to redesign them? Or do you have some examples of icon styles you like and what kind of direction you would like to go?

I was just in general wondering how you organize design topics. I can open an issue with some suggestions to open a space for discussion.

Almost everything is specified via code (and it probably could be organized much better :D). At this point we also don't have a seperate UI lib or figma docs or something like this.

In terms of style we probably should stay close to the material icons that make the vast majority of all app icons. Currently I am happy with most of the icons. I see some room for improvement for the schedule icon, the planner icon, maybe the boards icon, the issue panel icon, the schedule panel icon (maybe should be different from the schedule icon?), the sort icon (that is used to bundle sort, group and filter menus) and the "Planned / Repeat" icon.

What do you think? Do you have something particular in mind, where you see room for improvement?

Yes, I saw now that you are using material icons - totally missed that before. So all additional icons should fit with them, I agree.

I didn't have anything specific in mind, so I can have a look at the icons you mentioned and open an issue with some visual suggestions :)
