How to sync with multiple desktops

Hello - I have downloaded the windows app for work at my main office, so far this app is amazing. But I work in different locations, with different work stations.

I saw the sync and export in the settings but I'm unsure how to make it sync between two desktops.

I thought I could just export the end of the day at one and import it to the other (my main office)

There is a note that says "NOTE: Once you hit the import button all your current settings and data will be overwritten!

I assume that means it will delete my old tasks that I still have to finish?

I was thinking about using the sync feature, setting it to "LocalFile" and the path would be a networked drive that I have access to on both computers. But again...idk what that would do and I don't want to lose my current tasks

Any help would be appreciated.

You'll need either a Dropbox, GoogleDrive, or WebDAV connection that is accessible from both locations. You'll need to upload a super.json file to that location, and then go to Sync & Export settings on both machines and enter identical connection details on each so they point at the same file.

I'm currently using WebDAV on my self-hosted NextCloud site, but I've also connected through my Synology NAS device's WebDAV app previously. It did take a bit of extra setup on the firewall, DNS and reverse proxy side to ensure WebDAV connected properly from outside of my home network, but that isn't really related to Super-Productivity.

If you plan to use NextCloud, I used the CSP Editor app instead of the webapppassword app mentioned in Super-Productivity, as it's newer and compatible with the latest version of NextCloud, whereas webapppassword hasn't been updated to be compatible with the most recent major NextCloud releases.

Thank you for this. I was having sync errors (404) until I created the file on my nextcloud. Then it syncs correctly.

So my request below has been resolved. It does turn out that the 404 error comes up even for bad or no connectivity however connectivity is contingent on insuring you are using the remote.php feature for Next Cloud to gain connectivity in the first place which I had omitted from the Base Url path. After injecting that into the path it worked as it should and I couldn't be more happier. I think I am certainly going to benefit from this app on a personal basis... I can already see some additions I would like to have in it but I will run those through the proper channels.

This is what is required when using next cloud for the Base Url path:

https://FQDN/remote.php/dav/files/(user name for the account you wish to push the sync file to).

Johannes' example in the setup includes /nextcloud/ in the path however I have found that this is not required nor works in our own configuration of Next Cloud.

I realize this thread is a bit dated but my topic is the same. Above it was mentioned that if one gets a 404 error the issue is not connectivity but that it can't find the file. I am using version 8.0.0 and regardless of what I have in the Base Url for WebDAV syncing, and even if I have nothing, I still get a 404 error.

I host my own next cloud server which has been up and running for many years. I use it both internally and externally and with every platform out there. I have placed the json sync file into a 'shared' folder and used the public link for the Base Url entry. I can reach this folder from any browser without issue using this shared public link. The file name for the json file also matches in the "Sync File Path". I have also created a 'dev' directory under my personal account on the Next Cloud server and placed the sync file in it and used my credentials in the sync set up of SP but still continue to get the 404 error.

I guess the question I want to ask is does super productivity maintain a log file that I can go to to determine what it thinks it isn't getting for a response leading to the 404 error?

Any help that can be provided would be much appreciated.

With nextcloud it was a bit more challenging to figure out the configuration.

For mine it ended up being the following:

Base URL: https://{FQDN}/remote.php/dav/files/{user}@{domain}.{tld}

IIRC I had set up something to remove the /nextcloud/ from the domain name on my server and reverse proxies - by default the URL for everything in my NextCloud instance included /nextcloud/, so this may be why Johannes included it.

Then there was some special configuration in my reverse proxy to ensure webdav read/write connectivity.

Then despite it being given that base URL, I still needed the sync file path as dav/super.json.

For logs you can check C:\Users\{user_name}\AppData\Roaming\superProductivity\logs\main.log

More recently, I simply created a free DropBox account and all I use it for is storing that json sync file - it'll never use up all the space the free account provides.

Thank you for your reply. I was able to overcome my 404 issue and I am now syncing from all devices through NextCloud flawlessly. I'm pretty tickled about it.

I am now attempting to sync task data with our MailCow server through caldav and running into issues there. I understand that the feature was written primarily with NextCloud in mind however I am certain it should work as well with MailCow. I have explained more in a dedicated thread here... What was your final fix? I read all the tests you tried that failed and I've just spent quite a bit of time having done most as well with no solution. I've had nextcloud up and working with other webdav clients but can't get this one to stop giving me the 404.

Disregard. I resolved it by rebooting both my computer and nextcloud. I had completed several maintenance tasks and was between updates so needed to restart my apps and systems to get them stable again.

I've noticed that when I use the app on more than one device to record my working hours, I regularly lose data from my records. I use the Dropbox connection. Very often, when I finish the day on the PC in the app and have synchronized everything and then later want to look at the worklog again from another PC or smartphone using the web application, everything is overwritten from the second device. So how to use the app or webapp on more than one device? I think the app should pull data from remote first, than add data from local, and save/sync back if necessary.
