No bugs with ThunderBird 141.*, XPI can be patched (updated)

Update 2025.08.14: latest ThunderBird 141.0 and TbSync 4.16 / EAS-4-TbSync 4.16

My distro upgraded to ThunderBird 140
After patching the manifest.json inside the .XPI of both TbSync abd EAS-4-TbSync, they seems to successfully sync with both my Universities' Outlook 365.

For anyone who wants to test further:

• Either edit the strict_max_version line of the manifest.json file inside each .XPI archive:

• Or download those files and rename from .zip to .xpi:

Oh sorry, I checked TbSync first, I didn't notice that people did report same success on EAS-4-TbSync's issue board: jobisoft/EAS-4-TbSync#290

I have tried both editing my own and downloading your copies, and they install just fine, but I can't open the options (wrench icon) to configure. Any ideas?

Works for me with TB 140.0.1esr and 140.1.0esr on Win64.
I did the same modification to https://github.com/zanonmark/Google-4-TbSync which then also continues to work.

Wait TbSync has configuration in the Add-Ons pane?

I though everything is done from the TbSync dialog (the TbSync button with the cloud and circular arrows, or the "Edit" menu -> "Syncrhonization Settings (TbSync)")
Never paid attention to the wrench...

I also use the TbSync button with the cloud and circular arrows to configure TbSync, but right now with edited manifest files, both it and the wrench button on the Extensions tab are greyed out and do nothing when clicked.

While TBSync and EAS-4-TbSync both seem to be functioning normally right now, if I experience EAS-4-TbSync bug 238 (which I sometimes do), I'm not sure how I'll resync my calendars and contacts.

Interesting... the Cloud button with the arrows is working fine for me!

And I never noticed a working settings button on the Extensions tab, so I guess it never had any functionality.

I edited the "strict_max_version": "149.*" in the json file, and it works. Hope it would be fine in the future several upgrade until ThunderBird 149 ;) Moreover, direct install by drag and drop using .zip file without renaming to .xpi is also fine. Thank @jobisoft for your great work!

I was held up by the update for my other add-on, Quicktext, which made a big step towards becoming a pure WebExtensions. Sorry for keeping you waiting for so long. Will now work on updates for TbSync + EAS to be pushed to ATN.

Pease note, that I will not have the resources to support the monthly release channel with updates. If possible, use Thunderbird ESR.

My focus is currently on Quicktext, which will finish its convertion to a pure WebExtension over the next year and then can be used with Thunderbird Release without needing updates.

I then want to work on TbSync, if it is still needed in 2026.

You really should not go down that route. You will bump into this issue every for weeks. I suggest to use Thunderbird ESR, if you want to use TbSync in 2025/2026.

I think it's fine if we coordinate among hotshots running bleeding edge to test it. No need for you to stress about this, you can concentrate on ESR only.

Well European universities and companies are slowly waking up to the notion that entirely relying on a "someone else's computer" from a mega-corporation in a country that is going even crazier than before isn't the best idea ever.

But I won't be holding my hopes very high that they will start moving away from Microsoft 365 by 2026 already.
