remapping styles when doing orgmode -> docx

I'd appreciate an advise, is this thing possible, eventually by using filters?
I'm doing the normal pipeline (i.e. with the --reference-doc) okay.
But the publishers want their own set of paragraph styles names in the .docx file.
And there seems to be no capability for that in the intermediate JSON representations?

Attributes on divs can be used to set custom styles: https://pandoc.org/MANUAL.html#custom-styles
However, this isn't intended to be used to change all the style names, so there may be paragraphs whose style you can't control in this way.

Could you elaborate on that, please? What paragraphs can't be style-controlled this way? Or when, under what conditions?
I'm thinking of writing a filter applying the 'div' concept unconditionally to the input stream, only I wouldn't want to go to all that trouble to discover that the thing won't work somewhere/somewhen in principle, as I'm just a dabbler in programming, not a pro by any stretch.
Or maybe I just don't see the thing implemented already? looked in lua-filters, generic filters, and on wiki.
