This document defines and described the principles by which Geographical Names should be given in Australia under the authority of the Intergovernmental Committee on Surveying & Mapping.
These draft principles will be dependent on the Geographical Names Model when it’s approved, much like the Addressing Creation & Maintenance Standard is dependent on the Address Model.
This repository contains the source code for the document in ASCIIDOC files which is temporarily rendered online at: https://icsm-au.github.io/gn-principles/doc.html
The future intent is to register a PID with the AGLDWG which resolves to the principles.
We encourage contributions to this repository and the principles!

This document is developed using the ASCIIDOC document system used for many OGC and ISO standards. It essentially builds HTML or PDF documents from a series of text files (ending in .adoc), images and so, with certain styling conventions.
This repository automatically builds this document from the source files in the document/ folder using the ASCIIDoctor tool that it integrated into a GitHub Action, meaning the document is rebuild with every error-free update to the source files here.
The auto-built document is online at https://icsm-au.github.io/addr-principles/doc.html.
