Review error handling

The handling of errors in ids.server, in particular with respect to I/O errors from the plugin may need a review. Just one example: a comment in #58 describes a scenario where an I/O error from the archive storage may eventually lead to the loss of data in the main storage.

I guess, a systematic assessment of possible error conditions and desired behavior for recovery would be needed.
