Add a basic set of standalone performance tests

Memory and threading issues don't really show up in the tests run by maven through JNI.  Some simple tests that can be pointed at a large HDFS cluster help out here.

Standalone tests are also nice because they can be run through tools like valgrind without the noise that the JVM/JNI layer will generate.
