cannot get fluxcd to bootstrap via terraform and helm #5165

I am installing a talos cluster via terraform and then deploy the flux helm chart. While flux seems to be running, it just does not bootstrap the cluster from the provided github repo. I am looking for some docs, example or help. I feel a little lost atm.

But maybe it is the wrong approach? I found

That Helm chart only installs Flux, it doesn't setup the sync with Git. I recommend using flux-operator, here is the Terraform example for bootstrap: https://github.com/controlplaneio-fluxcd/flux-operator/tree/main/config/terraform

I have now added the kustomization. And it works! 🎉

Here is just a quick write down for whoever runs into similar questions or problems.

The artifact revision shows that the sops integration is working.
It managed to decrypt the token and clone the repo.

But the kustomize failed with

which was misleading. It was really looking for

flux/clusters/production/flux-system/gotk-components.yaml

as I only have gotk-sync.yaml.

When I then checked the example I realized that I needed to adjust the flux/clusters/production/flux-system/kustomization.yaml

Once I fixed the kustomization.yaml I had a working system.

You can delete the flux-system dir if you use the operator, see https://fluxcd.control-plane.io/operator/flux-bootstrap-migration/

Correct, the FluxInstance is created by Terraform

There is one more thing I might need a pointer with. FluxCD is now bootstrapped correctly via terraform.
It uses the token from the SOPS secrets to get the repo content

kubectl --kubeconfig .configs/a/kubeconfig get gitrepositories -A -w

and tries to apply

kubectl --kubeconfig .configs/a/kubeconfig get kustomizations -A -w

Now I am not sure I am trying to use the secrets management the right way, because

ExternalSecret/demo/hello-world-secrets dry-run failed: no matches for kind "ExternalSecret" in version "external-secrets.io/v1beta1"

Suggests the external secret support is not installed yet.

Do I need to manually install this?
Or would it be handled differently?
