Workers are special in that they can do different things, they can trigger on schedules or act as webhooks, or interact with durable objects, etc... Both cron jobs and webhooks are part of native n8n functionality so I would deem that feature as rather unnecessary for this codebase. But if you have a good use case for having a workers node please describe it thoroughly so we can discuss it.
