I am getting the following error:

ide: command not found

What can I do to make it work?

The most common reason for this problem is that you just installed IDEasy on your computer and are inside a terminal that was opened before the installation.
This also applies to the entire Windows Terminal application that you need to close with all tabs after you initially installed IDEasy.
This is because the IDEasy installer sets and modifies specific environment variables (PATH and IDE_ROOT) that only apply for new processes and not for existing ones (like Windows Terminal that may already be running).
Once you restarted your terminal or even rebooted your computer, this problem will be gone.

In case you still get such error after IDEasy was already working before, we have to go a little into technical details:

• If you are in CMD or PowerShell we have very limited possibilities to integrate and therefore provide a script called ide.bat that you can find in the bin folder next to ideasy[.exe] of your IDEasy installation. So if you type ide in CMD or PowerShell this will look for an executable ide in your PATH and on Windows will find ide.bat. But if you get such error, then check your PATH and check if ide.bat is actually present in your IDEasy installation: e.g. when you manually delete it, you will get such error and should not wonder why. Also call where ide or where ide.bat in CMD to test if the command is found on your PATH and if so where it is on your computer.
• If you are in bash or zsh (what we strongly recommend) we have a much better integration that works via a shell concept called function. So technically in bash the command ide is not a programm or script but a function. Functions defined by IDEasy come from the file functions that you can find beside the bin folder in your IDEasy installation. During the installation of IDEasy we modify your .bashrc and .zshrc files to source this functions file with bash code defining the functions ide and icd. So in case you get the ide: command not found error then your shell does not have the ide function defined. Check your .bashrc (or .zsrhc if you use zsh) and also your functions file that should be referenced from there.
• In case you are writing a (bash) script to automate things and want to make use of IDEasy, you can simply add the following line to that script in order to make that possible:
