Deepnest fails at nesting this simple case

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. import this simple svg : https://www.paradigme.cc/shared_public/18.svg
2. add 1 sheet of 330mm x 2100 mm
3. Press nest
4. 6 parts out of 7 are nested only

Same experience here, I am trying 1.5.6 on Fedora 43.

First, created just a simple circle in Inkscape, imported it into deepnest and set the quantity to 10, clicked "Start nest" which brings up a new screen with stats that never change and an animation on the "Stop nest" button, but nothing happens.

Tried the same with a simple rectangle - same result.

Reduced quantity to 1 and imported the circle and two times the rectangle - same behavior.

In the terminal starting background! is being printed in a loop, when I hit "Stop nest" after getting tired of waiting it prints:

Since these are really primitive shapes I am a bit confused now - is this supposed to work, am I doing something wrong or is this release still in an early alpha stage?

have you set up your sheet your circles or rectangles would be cut from though ?
you need to import shapes and also define a sheet to cut from.

in my case, the sheet clearly is enough to nest all the parts (I easily do it by hand) but deepnest fails at finding a solution that fits them all unless I'm missing something.

If you have a 100x100 sheet and 10 times a 10x10 it will never will the complete space, as it needs a bit space for calculation reason. so you need to set your sheet to 100.001x100.001 and it should fill it complete, that what I do and is working.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

your SVG has already overlapping parts, so it has problems, to resolve the parts out of it.

I agree but in my example above there's clearly enough space all around and yet deepnest doesn't fit the 7 pieces, only 6.

oh, so in my case it was a "user fail", I did not realize that I had to add a sheet first, sorry, thanks for the pointer!
