Unit testing proxy

Hi, we want to build a reverse proxy similar to the quick start guide: https://www.pingorarust.com/quick_start. The guide is great but gives no infos about unit testing and I find it really hard to test the code. Does anyone knows a good guide for this or has some tips to get started? Any help is much appreciated.
