add X11 compound text?

Hi, wondering if it'd be possible to add enc/dec of compound text. There are some examples in swank backends.

I'd never heard about this encoding. Seems like it predates Unicode. If Unicode is a superset, then it should be doable. Not sure what you mean about "examples in swank backends". I do not have plans to implement this myself, but pull requests are welcome.

Unicode is not a superset. It's basically some specific bits to tell when to switch encodings to things like latin, jis, etc...
There are example implementations in the backends for swank. I'm not familiar with babels architecture, but it should be almost plug and play for someone who does. Trying to find a link, someone deleted my account where I posted it.

Nevermind about swank, I can't seem to find anything regarding compound text there. Must have been thinking of something else. The spec is https://www.x.org/releases/X11R7.6/doc/xorg-docs/specs/CTEXT/ctext.html

In that case, it seems like something you should be able to build (or at least prototype) on top of string-to-octets and octets-to-string.
