License clarification

Under which license is the pyiqa package and code licensed? In the pyproject.toml and on PyPI it says:

license = { text = "Apache Software License" }

but in the LICENSE file of this repository and in the README is says CC 4.0 BY-NC-SA.

I'm confused to which license I now have to adhere and would appreciate clarification.

Thanks for the information, and apologies for the confusion.

The overall project is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. The reason there are two license files is that parts of the codebase originate from the S-Lab project, which is distributed under a different license.

S-Lab license is also a permissive non-commercial license. This means the original code can be included in this project, and the combined work can be distributed under the more restrictive CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 terms.

Thanks for the note, that’s a very fair point.

You're right that Creative Commons licenses aren’t generally recommended for software. I’ll consider switching to a more appropriate software license to avoid any ambiguity or misuse.
