what driver should I have installed on the host? I thought that was all done inside the container |

dnf install libva-intel-media-driver on the host, rebooted. same behavior. turned on preset-vaapi instead of auto. same behavior. Looking at the host vainfo, its a little different than the vainfo results from the container. it shows fewer profiles and none of them for HEVC/H265. Trying display: wayland |

installing the media driver from the nonfree rpmfusion gave me more profiles, including the missing HEVC profiles. I tried doing a qsv stream in the container, it errored out but vaapi did work within the container, just not in frigate in the container. the ffmpeg within the container was able to pull off vaapi manually somehow. QSV looks like this: vaapi looks like this: |

vaapi work from the CLI in the container. it doesnt seem to work in frigate itself. I can only get mjpeg streams out of this thing. I'm using an intel B570. its possible some established older stuff might not work properly with it like VAAPI. from what I'm reading, this card seems to have a reputation for preferring the stuff nobody has ready yet. |

I'll add my 2 cents, sorry to hop on your ticket but we're in the same boat. I have yet to get either qsv profile to work in frigate with my battlemage b570 either. I'm running Ubuntu 25.10 with the stock intel drivers, using the kobuk-team/intel-graphics-testing ppa didn't help either. I've been using vaapi since upgrading my server, which is fine for now, but qsv would obviously be preferred due to its lower cpu and power usage. I also have the jellyfin container and it does work with qsv without issue. To me, this indicates an issue with the frigate image and not a host driver.

I have also been battling with this issue for the couple of days. I finally did a google search for "frigate battlemage" and limited it to the last month to find this discussion. It sound like I am out of luck using this card with official Frigate until 0.18 comes out? mrplow, does your hack work with 0.16 or does it require 0.17? I thought Olloma was going to be the biggest bleeding edge issue with this card, but since they recently added support for Vulkan, that turned out to be easy. |

I am still learning podman, but I managed to build a new image from a frigate pull, which replaces the ffmpeg with the one from Jellyfin. That does seem to fix ffmpeg issues. Unfortunately, I cannot get any of the GPU based detector models to run. They each die with various different error messages. I was hoping that installing the jellyfin ffmpeg would update the GPU drivers for all apps, but either that is not the case, or I have not figured out the correct configuration -- or not built the models correctly. |

Describe the problem you are having
when hwaccel_args is set to preset-intel-qsv-h265, none of the streams work. It looks like the container cant reach the GPU but I'vs already piped it the /dev/dri folder, give it rwm permissions, checked SElinux logs, even tried doing this again in a rootful container and it just would not work on this interl B570 GPU. When set to auto, streams are all low res and fall back to mjpeg.
