[Bug]: Frigate Freezes When Updating Face Image in Face Library

Describe the problem you are having

When I use the Face Library feature to update (i.e., upload or replace) a face image, the UI hangs indefinitely. Upon inspecting with the browser’s DevTools (F12), I noticed that the register request remains in a pending state and never resolves. Frigate becomes unresponsive after this, and I have to manually restart Frigate to recover functionality.

Steps to reproduce

1. Go to the Face Library.
2. Attempt to update or upload a face image.
3. Observe the register API request stays in "pending".
4. Frigate UI and backend both freeze until a restart.

We can't reproduce this, is this consistently reproducible for you? If so, is it with one particular image or any image?

When another user saw this issue, they saw a crash in the Frigate logs from the embeddings manager process.

Does this happen on every image you upload, or just this specific one?

I’ve tried not just one picture, but several different ones, and all of them caused the crash. However, I was able to successfully upload and process the same images using the code from commit aef715e, which I built around two weeks ago. So the issue seems to be introduced after that version.

Since we can't reproduce this issue and there are no logs, there's no way for us to know what may be causing it for you. It would be helpful if you could identify the exact build where the issue begins.

Looks like the issue is something specific to my computer. When I used the exact same image on another machine, everything worked just fine. Very strange behavior… Thank you for taking the time to help and look into the undefined issue. I’ll dig deeper on my end to figure out what might be going on with my setup.

I'm experiencing the same issue. Frigate 0.16.0 beta 3 runs in docker in Proxmox LXC. All works fine until I start uploading face picture. Frigate becomes unresponsive and cameras feeds are gone...

I am having the same problem using 0.16.1-e664cb2. I have tried other browsers. Nothing in the logs to suggest a fault. I thought it perhaps was a problem with the nginx proxy manager, although I have tried direct to frigate and still experience the same problem. I have also tried different clients to upload the image. What would be the best way to log and troubleshoot this?

I have the same issue here, but only when I'm using HTTP. The bug doesn't occur when using HTTPS.
