How where you able to remove the standard Amazon icons from the tablet?

Mine still shows the battery, clock etc icons. Is there an Amazon app or some setting somewhere that I can enable/disable?

If you look closely, you'll see that the buttons do appear on mine as well

This needs to be handled natively on the Android side of the application. See http://developer.android.com/training/system-ui/navigation.html for more details on hiding the system buttons.
