Consider other generator/configuration file formats

As of now for generator input only json is supported. Configuration files are currently not supported at all. 

We at least need a reasonable format for configuration files (JSON, TOML, ...?) as well as non-file inputs (e.g. if configuration is to be supplied by another external interface) ... 

For the generator, JSON should suffice for now
