imv FOLDERNAME NEWFOLDERNAME is doing a recursive loop

I have uploaded ~800G of data to iRODS.
I have now tried to rename the folder, it has started a recursive loop of all the subfiles and moving them one by one instead of just renaming the topfolder. This is no good since this will start the java client for every file...
It looks like it is a iRODS issue.

I aliased iput and irepl with the --purgec flag for kali in the irods/swestore module. Strangely enough, irsync does not have this flag.

I mailed about it, and asked if this can be done more centrally (at the config/rule level):
